Geert Dancet

Geert Dancet is an accomplished leader in the field of chemicals legislation and regulatory affairs. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he brings extensive expertise as Secretary General of the Helsinki Chemicals Forum, a global conference on chemicals regulatory affairs, as Chair of the Regulatory Representatives and Managers Association (RRMA) and senior advisor to the public affairs company FIPRA. He also serves as the President of the Leuven-Europa-Club (LEUC).

About his career

Geert was the first Head of the REACH unit in the European Commission, the Interim Executive Director and for two full mandates Executive Director of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), spanning in total 14 years. His leadership during such long timespan was instrumental in adopting and implementing the REACH Regulation, Europe’s landmark chemicals legislation and building one of the most performing decentralized agencies of the EU. Before working on chemicals legislation he had a long career in the field of competition policy within the Commission.

He obtained a MA in economics and BA in philosophy from the University of Louvain, where Geert also worked as teaching and research assistant to different professors. He gained his first international experience working for the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in Colombia.

His blend of regulatory expertise and commitment to sustainable development continues to attracts interest for his strategic advice from both public authorities and private companies.
